Exhibition Statment

The works I wish to exhibit derive primarily from joy in flowers and gardens. During the lockdowns, I, like so many others have had the opportunity to walk for kilometres, and this has provided me with an opportunity to more closely appreciate the public gardens, street trees and beautiful growth everywhere.

Being alone in the studio has been a great time for introspection and contemplation. As a result, these works have become an examination of how the past layers of one’s life support the present. I have tried to create works that encourage the viewer’s eye to wander from foreground to background and return to the foreground. It is a consideration of the idea that the past is never without its impact on the present, although it does not have to impose on the present.

Using mixed media, acrylic paint, ink, pencil, crayon or anything else to hand, helps develop the feeling of multi-layering.
