Ignorance is Bliss is an exhibition by Andrew Pilkington (PILKO) that showcases painted and digitally coloured pen and ink cartoons. Andrew’s work may initially appear colorful and joyous, but upon closer inspection it is found to be both darkly humorous and critical. Taking inspiration from Smile Mask Syndrome (a phenomenon identified in Japan in which customer service employees are required to fake smile for long periods of time were identified to be severely depressed and physically ill) the character’s in Andrew’s work are subject to body horror; whether they realise it – or not.

Andrew is currently self-publishing his comic book series MOLE.
